The Reading2Connect Library Program
Enhancing Social-Emotional Wellbeing with
Age/Dementia Friendly Books and Employee Training

1

A Program Derived from Evidence-Based Research

The field of senior care often overlooks the preserved reading abilities of many individuals with dementia.

Reading2Connect® is built on the proven belief that most people with dementia retain functional reading skills.

Our award-winning, evidence-based program provides libraries with:

  • A collection of age/dementia-friendly books

  • Employee/volunteer training

  • Supporting materials

With our training, participants learn to enhance older adults’ intellectual, emotional, and social wellbeing.

2

Age Appropriate and
Dementia Appropriate Books

Reading2Connect® offers age-appropriate, accessible books with clear text and rich illustrations, helping older adults rediscover the joy of reading and feel at home in the library.

Our books preserve the integrity of adult literature, covering a wide range of topics—from popular interests (like pets and sports) to culturally significant subjects such as the Civil Rights Movement, the Korean War, Judaism, and Japanese-American history.

Reading2Connect supports memory, self-expression, and connection—bringing every voice to the table.

3

Multiple Languages.
Multiple Formats.

Reading2Connect® books are available in English, French, Spanish, Chinese, and Italian, and come in three accessible formats:

  • Durable print books on washable, tear-resistant paper

  • eBooks for use on devices or large screens

  • Video Books for viewing with audio support

These formats help employees, families, and volunteers meet the diverse needs of older adults with challenges in mobility, vision, hearing, or dexterity.

Library employees report that even individuals with advanced dementia often enjoy Video Books with headphones, and that seemingly disengaged older adults often respond positively to our materials.

NOTE: Reading2Connect brings older adults, their hired care partners, and their families into your library. Reading2Connect expands libraries’ outreach and strengthens community partnerships.

In addition, when a library purchases our program, they retain lifetime access to our online training. This ensures that the extensive, positive impacts of Reading2Connect® remain alive and flourishing even with staff turnover.
